We had the carb off the 302 for a rebuild, but we'll get it buttoned up, tuned, and ready for action.
Next, we've got black, but it's not a truck. This is a 1980 Dodge Mirada that came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for a complete restoration. It's not a car that you see in restoration shops often, but our customer bought this one brand new back in 1980 and has been driving it ever since. When he finally wore it out, he brought it to us to be brought back to better-than-new condition.
Our team tore it down, performed numerous sheet metal repairs, rebuilt the engine and suspension, and applied the slick black Axalta paint. It's going to be one of the nicest Miradas ever!

The V8 Speed & Resto Shop-Restored 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Wins Gearheads4Life Editor’s Choice Award and Best Paint at 2016 Street Machine Nationals in DuQuoin, IL!
Congratulations to Molly Fischer and her 1979 Pontiac Trans Am for winning 2 major awards at the 2016 Street Machine Nationals in DuQuoin, IL! Molly’s Pontiac has a storied history.. It was restored the first time by her husband Will and a friend and saw weekend and show duty until ironically being wrecked at the very show where it recently won the awards!
Will decided to let the talented team at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop in Red Bud, IL, handle the crash repair, and they took the car to a whole new level of fit, finish, and paint quality.
The V8 Speed crew disassembled the car, straightened out the smashed tail panel and buckled quarter panels and rocker panels, and repaired numerous items like dented fender edges and door openings.
Then, they stripped all the existing paint and re-gapped all the panels, correcting fitment issues, dings, and other bodywork imperfections. Next, they block sanded the car arrow-straight, applied numerous layers of sanding primer, and sealed the car in preparation for the 14-layer House Of Kolor Kandy Brandywine paint job.
Once the car was sprayed in sealer, the crew sprayed a gold base before adding 7 layers of Kandy Brandywine specially mixed with Fireball F-32 flakes for a magical sparkle in the sun. Once the desired color was achieved, the car was topcoated in several layers of clear for a rich lustre.
Once the clear had cured, the car was wet sanded to 5000 grit and then buffed with a 3-stage process to achieve the high-gloss finish you see today. Finally, the Trans Am SE gold stripe package was added, and the car was re-assembled with all new weatherstripping and the windows and t-tops were aligned. A custom set of 18” snowflake wheels were installed to update the Trans Am’s classic look.
The car turns heads everywhere it goes, and we’re excited for the owners and V8 Crew that it brought home the Gearheads4Life Editor’s Choice Award and the Best Paint in the Street Machine Class at the 2016 Street Machine Nationals! They even used the car in the ad for the event!
There are always a bunch of cool projects in process at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop! Let's take a lap around the shop to see the latest!
This very cool 1978 Pontiac Trans Am arrived in the shop looking for better road manners. It's running a Pontiac 400 with an automatic, and the customer likes to do big road trips, so we're installing a FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 fuel injection system, an overdrive 200 4-R transmission, and new 3.73:1 rear gears. This will give him the benefits of better starting and throttle response, an overdrive gear for better cruising, and numerically higher gears for better accelration while improving the fuel economy. It's a great looking ride.
Next, we're in the process of converting this LS1-powered 1969 Camaro from an automatic transmission to a manual unit. It's a clean custom Camaro with lots of updates, and the owner wants to row the gears instead of the 4L60 shifting for him.
The 1966 Ford Galaxie 7-Litre is getting closer to completion. This was a complete restoration, and the beautiful Emberglo color really came out slick. It's a 428 cubic inch V8 car with an automatic, and you can follow the progress of the build in our forum HERE.
The COMP Cams 40th Anniversary Camaro is also progressing nicely! Here, the 454 cubic inch Butler LS engine is resting between the Heidt's frame rails awaiting the wiring and other ancillaries to become a runner.
This monster made over 690 Horsepower all by itself with no supercharger or other power adder... it's going to be quite a handful to drive!
The 1951 Chevy Pickup Truck is in the final stages of bodywork and getting ready for a new layer of shiny black Axalta paint! The crew performed a long list of metalwork fixes to make this heirloom truck look great again.
This truck will be powered by a 5.3 litre Chevrolet truck engine and is shifted by a 4L60E transmission.
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro "Carbon Flash" has been metalfinished and is now entering the bodywork phase of it's restoration, and the crew has also been building a Holley Fuel Injected small-block Chevy V8 for power.
This 1977 Chevrolet Corvette is now sporting a new complete custom dash with Dakota Digital instruments, and we're building in some room for a flip-screen navigation system in a custom console. It should be a great car to drive!
The 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is almost ready to go home... we'll post a bunch of cool pics of this one completed soon!
The 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 car is in it's final rounds of sanding before color application... this is going to be an awesome car. Stay tuned to the build thread to see more!
A 1966 Corvette rolled in to the shop to get some maintenance items and leaks fixed, we're really diggin' the original 327 car with factory air conditioning!
A 1966 Mustang Convertible made a stop at the shop for some major tune-up work, interior upgrades, a new convertible top, and a general cleaning. It's now a great little driver and ready for the summer cruising season! Before:
There are many more cars in the shop, but we're always excited to chat with people about how we might be able to help restore their dream car! Contact us today for more info at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, 314.783.8325!
