This sweet 1969 Corvette roadster arrived in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop in Red Bud, Illinois, in need of some upgraded power and added fun! The original engine was long gone, so the customer did not have much of a "guilt" factor for changing the car, so modern Corvette power was chosen to boost the fun! The crew of the V8 Speed & Resto Shop routinely performs everything from maintenance on old cars to complete restorations and modern engine conversions, so they were well equipped to replace the anemic 350 in favor of a modern 485 HP Chevrolet LS3 V8. They backed the LS3 with a Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed manual gearbox from Modern Driveline, which required many modifications to the clutch, console, and transmission tunnel.
Looks right at home, no? Fuel injection is managed by a Holley Dominator EFI system.
The transmission tunnel required extensive work, so the V8 team created an entire transmission tunnel and console plate to insure proper fitment of the transmission. They received plenty of help from friends at Modern Driveline with the transmission, clutch, hydraulic system, and shifter.
Custom side pipes loaded with MagnaFlow internals growl, and the 'Vette rides on 17" YearOne Corvette rally wheels. Upsized Willwood brakes hide behind the wheels, actuated by a Hydratech Hydrobost system.
The stock-appearing interior reveals Dakota Digital gauges in the dash and console, modern audio and air conditioning, and textures chosen to appear 'like they belong" there.
Once completed, the owner jumped in and drove the car nearly 1000 miles home, trouble-free. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team prides itself on reliability and drivability of the cars built in the shop.
