Some say these cars are never finished, and that holds true especially when a modified car changes hands. In this case, our customer purchased this killer 1969 Chevrolet Camaro as a freshly completed Pro-Touring machine complete with a slick silver paint job and a very cool red leather interior, but the 700+ HP 540-cube Shafiroff big block Chevy and 6-speed T-56 Magnum transmission are a bit much for the otherwise stock suspension. The huge torque easily overpowers the rear tires, and the handling isn’t up to the expectations of the owner. So, the car was sent to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop so our crew could take the suspension, rear axle, wheels, tires, brakes, and a few other areas of the car to the next level. The big challenge - installing a complete Detroit Speed QUADRALink rear suspension and front subframe, wheel tubs, Currie Enterprises rear axle, Forgeline wheels, Toyo Tires, Holley Performance Products EFI, and more without damaging the beautiful silver paint or messing up the body panel fit. After all, something that looks this good should have the moves to match!

In this installment, we’re driving the 1969 Camaro called “Lou’s Change” built in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop. The car is finished, and the 700+ horsepower supercharged GM LSA 6.2 V8 pulls hard through a Tremec T56 Magnum transmission from Modern Driveline. It handles the road with confidence thanks to a Detroit Speed hydroformed front subframe and suspension and a Detroit Speed QUADRAlink rear suspension and Currie 9+ rear axle. The MagnaFlow pipes sing at RPM, and the modified body includes modern ZL-1 Camaro blended with a classic 1969 Camaro look. Forgeline wheels wrapped in Toyo tires provide traction, and Wilwood brakes bring it all to a stop. OER restoration parts provide a fresh appearance.

The COMP Cams team picked up the car from our shop in Red Bud, IL, and made the journey to COMP headquarters in Mephis without a hitch... and yes, they drove the car! According to the nubers, there were only 38 of these first generation 1967 Excalibur roadsters built, and the V8 Speed & Resto Shop crew just finished a freshening on a very cool maroon version for a great customer. The car is powered by a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 327 and is hooked to a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic transmission, and features functional side exiting pipes and dual exhaust. The chassis is basically a stretched 1964 Studebaker Lark, with front disc brakes and a third headlight that turns with the steering wheel, like a Tucker Torpedo. Inside, you'll find an engine-turned dash with Stewart Warner gauges and an original Motorola radio. This car is showing just over 19,000 miles on the odometer, and had not run in years before being delivered to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for a tune-up and some new wide whitewalls from Diamond Back Classics. These are rare and unusual cars, and we're happy to keep them on the road!

This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL rumbles thanks to a 460+ cubic inch 428 fed by two four barrel Holleys on top, and is shifted with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some basic maintenance, as well as bodywork and a re-spray. More photos after the break!
This sweet 1973 Pontiac Trans Am is heading home after a trip to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some A/C repairs, new rear gears, a stance adjustment, and some other maintenance items. This car is running a factory 455-cube Pontiac V8 and is finished in Buccaneer Red. While our shop did not restore this car, we performed a variety of tasks to complete the beautiful restroation.

The V8 Speed & Resto Shop Crew recently finished a complete restoration on this 1964 Chevrolet C-10 pickup truck including suspension, rust repair and sheet metal fabrication, and more. They installed a GM L92 6.2 liter V8 powered by a Mast Motorsports ECM and using Holley accessory drive brackets, oil pan, and Hooker exhaust manifolds. A Mast cam and valve springs were installed, yielding approximately 525 horsepower. A TCI 4L60E transmission is used to provide an overdrive gear, and the truck rolls on Mob Steel 20" wheels. The finish is satin black with a charcoal silver roof, wheels, and side trim insert, and the bed is all new wood. The interior featured a leather seat, Vintage Air A/C, a Dakota Digital box to allow the original speedometer to work with the modern transmission, upgraded audio, and more. One of the latest creations to come out of the V8 Speed & Resto Shop is this slick 1969 Chevelle wearing SS stripes and trim but featuring a hopped up 454 under the hood. The car is rolling on Rocket Racing wheels and features other subtle modifications like new leather upholstery in the stock original pattern from OPGI, tunes by Antique Auto Radio that look stock but is fully Bluetooth capable with MP3, Vintage Air A/C, and a full MagnaFlow stainless exhaust. The engine is basically built to LS-6 454 specs and features a Holley Street Avenger 870 carburetor, Hooker headers, a TCI torque converter, built TH400 trans, and a 3.42:1 geared 12-bolt rear axle. The owner replaced the quarter panels many years ago and brought it to V8 Speed & Resto Shop for new cabin and trunk floors, other metalwork, bodywork and paint, interior, assembly, and tuning. Today it wears Chevrolet Carbon Flash Metallic Black paint and bright red SS stripes and will be featured at the 2014 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago, November 22 & 23. This '79 Pontiac Trans Am was restored once, then became the unfortunate victim of a rear-end collision. The car came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for repairs and a few upgrades to transform it into the stunning car you see here. This was another car that would attract passers-by to stop and stare or take photos when it was parked in front of our shop!
The 1957 Chevrolet project has been returned to the road! The V8 Speed & Resto Shop Crew has completed the restoration of the chassis, suspension, engine repairs, interior upgrades, some paint work, trim, glass, and other details to make this former barn-dweller a highway flyer once again.
