I’m trying to learn more about the details of what they did, but it seems that they modified the code in the emissions software to make their diesels compliant to EPA regs. The news is all over their intent to deceive, which isn’t good, but nobody seems to be saying technically how they did it. I’m researching the details ’cause I’m curious.

VW did at the factory what tuners have been doing for years. They load a tune to give better performance. then, through some presets, like pressing the cruise button 3 times etc…, they’re able to go back to stock tune to pass emissions or avoid voiding the factory warranty. Pretty ballsy move on their part. Gonna cost them a lot of zort!

Ha, you get an extra nickel for properly using “zort.”

It seems they had a window where the cars met the standard… like they tuned them for the test specifically. Nobody guessed that the U of VA would do an independent review and discover the issue. At the end of the day, they intentionally skirted the law, and that’s the big Bozo no-no.

No argument there. I just read that the CEO resigned. Heads are already rolling.

Just saw an ad for a law firm advertising to get claim money for VW owners who were “wronged” by the diesel problem. Innovative!
