A Dream Car Comes Home
The 1969 Ford Cobra is a classic muscle car that has captured the hearts of enthusiasts for decades. This particular Cobra, owned by a passionate Ford enthusiast, is in the process of a transformative custom build at V8 Speed and Resto Shop.
The Restoration and Modification Plan
The owner has a deep connection to the Cobra, having admired it since his high school days. His goal is to restore the car to its original glory, while adding a few modern touches for enhanced performance and comfort. He envisions a classic, yet refined Cobra that he can enjoy on weekend cruises and at car shows.

The restoration process at V8 Speed and Resto Shop involves a comprehensive overhaul of the car. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store:
- Exterior: The Cobra will wear a custom mix of 2-stage paint in a deep Black Jade dark metallic green. The exterior trim will also be meticulously restored or replaced to match the original specifications. The hood is accentuated by a blacked out BOSS Mustang style hood scoop. The grille is blacked-out, and a small lower front air dam below the bumper is black as well. A black subtle custom rear decklid spoiler offsets the dual exhaust tips below the rear bumper.
- Engine: The engine plan calls for a Jon Kaase Racing BOSS 9 429 fuel injected engine backed by a Bowler Performance 6-speed Carbon series manual transmission to stand up to the 600+ horsepower churned up by the BOSS.
- Suspension: The suspension will be upgraded with performance-oriented components, including a Detroit Speed Aluma-Frame front cradle, with tubular control arms, coil-over shocks, splined sway bar, and rack and pinion steering. Subframe connectors tie the subframe to the body for stiffness, and the rear suspension consists of 4-link systeom with a sway bar and coil-over shocks. This will enhance handling and improve the car’s overall performance.
- Interior: The interior will be restored to its original look and feel, with upgraded seats stitched in custom leather for added comfort. Leather will also adorn the door panels, dash pad, and center console, and ambient LED lighting enhances the interior appearance. Upgraded Dakota Digital gauges and a premium audio system with backup camera add functionality to the interior.
