This very nice 1968 Oldsmobile 442 tribute car is wearing a crisp restoration and features some modified parts intended to give this car better handling and drivability. It’s not a numbers-matching W30 car, although it looks like one. It’s got 17” American Racing wheels, Wilwood brakes with a Hydratech hydraulic brake assist unit, Hotchkis control arms and sway bars, and a few other goodies. It’s powered by a big block Olds engine, but the owner wanted increased reliability, as he drives this car on cross country trips. His solution is a GM LSA supercharged 6.2 liter V8 “Connect & Cruise Kit” which also provides an overdrive transmission. It’s not an Oldsmobile engine, but the owner has several other numbers matching 442 W30 cars, and this one is not a “numbers car”, and he likes the technology and abilities of the LSA engine and the 4L85E transmission.

The S71 Olds made the cover of this month’s Popular Hot Rodding Magazine !  There’s also a full color feature inside.   We are really honored to have one of our creations featured in this special issue, along side of some of the coolest cars from the SEMA show built by the best in the biz.   One thing we’d like to point out is that the engine was built by Bill Trovato at BTR Performance (Not Kevin as the mag states, so give him a call if you want your own screaming Olds engine) and they transposed the name to SR71 from S71, but it’s all good.   We’re very proud of the car and our crew, and can’t thank our friends at Popular Hot Rodding enough for the coverage!    Now go buy a copy for yourself… there are TONS of killer cars in this issue!  Contact the V8 Speed & Resto Shop today to learn how we can build YOUR dream car!

Building the turbocharged 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass called the “S71” at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop.    This was a great project from the early days of our shop, and it would still hold its own today. The Olds required some rust repair and metalwork, and after paint, we completed the assembly of the S71 Olds and fired up the turbocharged BTR Performance built 422 cubic inch Olds V8 for the first time. The engine is managed by a FAST XFI 2.0, a self-learning advanced electronic fuel injection system which will keep our turbo engine in proper tune at all times. Following the restored interior parts from YearOne, we bolted on a set of Weld Racing S71 (no relation!) wheels and Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires and we were ready to roll.
