The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the latest Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be officially celebrated on July 14, 2023. The date marks the fourteenth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual holiday to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.
Intended since 2010 to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, the U.S. Congress has helped launch CCAD by introducing resolutions each year at the SAN’s request. This year, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced U.S. House Resolution 573 (H. Res. 573). The resolution was sponsored by co-chairs of the SEMA-supported Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus. These Congressional leaders have been strong advocates for the automotive culture in Washington, D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for the automobile’s unique historical place in our history.

Today we’re setting the wayback machine to November, 2014, where we find the “Mr. Chevy” 1955 Chevy gasser riding on the back of “Carried Away”, it’s personal matching ’55 hauler as they exit the 2014 SEMA Show lighting up the SEMA Cruise on their way out the door. In this shot, SEMA Cruise Emcee Joe Sebergandio fires up the crowd – who was already fired up – as the golden gasser makes a grand exit. “Carried Away” was restored by the V8 Speed and Resto Shop, while “Mr. Chevy” remains as it was when completed back in the late 1960s. Today, Joe Sebergandio and V8 Speed and Resto Shop’s own Kevin Oeste still have fun hosting the SEMA Cruise… a rolling car show where you truly have no idea what could be rolling by next!

A highlight for Kevin was hosting the SEMA Central Stage and interviewing people from all aspects of the automotive world, but perhaps the most memorable was surprising SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola with a Mikey Thompson streamliner model kit… just like the one Mike built as a kid that got him enthused about cars! Tears were shed, for sure. Other notables included Top Fuel racer Antron Brown, Hoonigan rally driver Ken Block, and more. We were super-stoked to see the 1932 Ford Roadster owned and loved by Hot Rod Magazine’s Gray Baskerville. It’s not only a righteous ride, but has crossed over 230,000 miles in the name of having a good time telling car stories to the masses.
