Okay, here’s mine. Just cleaned it out and lo and behold, I had a GTO in there!! Who knew?? There’s still a ton of work to do, but this is a start.03/23/2015 at #548103/23/2015 at #5482
I’m lucky that I have a decent sized garage. I really want to completely reorganize it. There’s a better way to do it. I just need to figure out what it is.03/23/2015 at #548303/23/2015 at #5487
Those heads are sitting on your bench are calling out to you… they want to be returned to their rightful place under the hood!
I know, I know. It’s killing me. Still have to get the short block gone through. Going to make it sweet! Forged everything with a stroker crank. I got a bug and wanted to see the intake valve work my machinist did. I like what I saw.03/25/2015 at #549303/26/2015 at #5505
This guy is real solid. Didn’t try to push anything on me that I didn’t need. First thing he did when I brought the heads to him was take one of valves and dissappear to a machine where he cleaned up the face and checked its general condition and came back and told me that these valves are fine. No need for new ones, they’re replacement valves and have a hardened tip and they’re in good shape. Rigjt there I felt that I was in good hands. Getting eager to pull the short block and get it to him. I got turned on to him from a friend who uses him for his stiff and he’s SUPER picky about machine work. He’s one of those guys who doesn’t advertise and you have to ‘know a guy’ to get an intro. Very cloak and dagger.03/26/2015 at #550703/26/2015 at #5508
You’re killing me, Smalls.03/26/2015 at #5509
You’re killing me, Smalls.
Ha… please forgive my poor memory. I know you had some “fun” with it last year, I just can’t remember where you left off. I’m guessing the heads on the bench are the set that were on the car. I’m catching up… give me a min… it’s all coming back to me. My personal ODO turns over another year in a couple weeks, and my memory is starting to slip like a Powerglide that’s 3 quarts low…03/26/2015 at #5515
LOL. No worries. Yes those are the same heads. I was driving it last Spring and some of Summer. I was getting a lot of back firing through the carb. Had a wiped out exhaust lobe and was trying to do an in car cam swap. When replacing the springs, I found a burnt exhaust valve with the boogered up seat to match. I was trying to get the swap done in time for the power tour, but this head nonsense dashed those hopes. I noticed I had some pretty low quality, low compression cast pistons so I made the decision to go balls deep in it and do it up right. Heads are done. Short block is next. Looking to have it come back to life as a 461. Should scoot!03/26/2015 at #551603/26/2015 at #5517
I went through a bunch of this in the epic thread “Project get my GTO back on the road” on the pre hacked V8TV forums.03/26/2015 at #5518
