Restomods are cars that still retain a mostly original outer appearance, but offer modern performance and convenience upgrades under the skin. The following videos feature some of the restomods cars either built or modified by the V8 Speed and Resto Shop over the years. See more in the Photos menu above!

Stripping A 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS With Dustless Media Blasting | V8 Speed and Resto Shop
We recently got our 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS back from the dustless media blaster to …find what type of previous repairs, rust, and corrosion were hiding under the paint.
Getting a car back from a media blaster is exciting because you’re always hoping for the best – meaning that the body or frame will need as little rust and damage repair as possible. There are many questions surrounding the media blasting process. For example:
What is the best blasting media to use for an old car?
What is dustless blasting?
What is glass bead?
What is the best blasting for classic car restoration?
Does sandblasting warp panels?
Is dustless blasting safe?
What can I expect when my car comes back from the media blaster?
What is the best way to strip paint and rust from an old car?
What is the best method to remove paint from a muscle car?
We attempt to answer all these questions in this video where we walk around and take a close-up book at the body shell of this 1967 Camaro after dustless media blasting.
Dustless blasting involves using high-pressure water and glass bead media to remove paint from the surface of the body. It is an excellent way to remove paint from highly contoured surfaces and areas that would take far too long with a traditional sanding tool. Here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, we will still manually strip the big flat panels like hoods, roof skins, decklids, door skins and quarter panels, just to minimize any risk of warpage and to have better control over the process. However, the dustless blaster will quickly strip the paint from the fire wall, floors, underside of the car, the trunk floor, door, jams, and all of the little pieces and parts, including the chassis and frame. It is a great way to go.
We’ve restored many Camaros here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, and we are looking forward to doing some sheet-metal repair on this car. Plans call for work in the quarter panels, inner wheel houses, trunk floor, dashboard replacement, repairing the outer cowl panels, (or tulip panels), and many more little holes that we found throughout the body shell. We’ll share updates as this 1967 Camaro goes through the fabrication center here at V8 Speed and Resto.
If you have a restoration project like this Camaro, or would like a custom built Hot Rod or classic, you can reach our shop anytime at https://www.v8speedshop.com and we are happy to chat about your project.

1968 Oldsmobile 442 Dashboard Replacement at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
1968 Oldsmobile 442 Dashboard Replacement at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Dashing Through The Fabrication Shop in a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Check out the skilled …craftsmanship happening at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop! 🔥 Our talented fabrication team is hard at work welding in a brand new dashboard into a super-cool 1968 Oldsmobile 442. This 442 sits on a Roadster Shop chassis but retains its original appearance.
One of the challenges was to repair the rusty dashboard, but without the support of a reproduction panel made specifically for Oldsmobiles. The solution – adapt a Chevelle piece, mating it to the Olds dashboard to retain the Olds speaker grille and vents while eliminating the rust. The fresh new dashboard is a combination of Chevelle parts and custom-made pieces, replacing the rusty original. The result is a seamless panel that looks like we were never there.
Stay tuned for more updates on this sweet restomod project. We can’t wait to unveil the finished ride!

1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible Walk Around and Certicard V8 Speed and Resto Shop
1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible Walk Around and Certicard V8 Speed and Resto Shop
We just brought in this very cool 1966 Dodge Coronet convertible. It’s got a pretty neat story …and a couple of very cool details we wanted to share with you.
This video attempts to answer the following common questions:
What is a Dodge Coronet convertible?
Who restores muscle cars?
Where is a muscle car restoration shop near me?
Our customer’s parents had one of these 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertibles brand new back in 1966, and a few years ago, they wanted to recapture some of those memories. So they found this car. This is not their original, but it’s a basically direct replacement. And over the years, our customer has ended up with the car from her parents and they want to get it back on the road and dialed in so that they can enjoy it. And they have younger children who are both interested in driving this car as well. So it’s truly a legacy / family heirloom type of vehicle. It’s got 383 under the hood with an automatic transmission with a bucket seat interior. But one of the coolest details is found under the hood right behind the driver’s side headlight.
A lot of these 1966 and 1967 Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth cars had a little thing found in a slot called a Certicard. A Certicard is a thing that the dealer used to keep track of the car for warranty purposes. It’s got the VIN. It also has the build date of the car, which in this case was May 17th of 1966, and the delivery date when it was first sold of October of 1966.
But it also has the original owners name and the dealership where it was sold. There’s also color codes on this so that we know that this car was originally a saddle tan with a with a tan interior. So it’s been repainted and there are some non-original elements on the car. The 383 is now fueled by a FAST EZ EFI system, and it’s got an upgraded MSD ignition and an aluminum radiator.
Inside, they added some aftermarket bucket seats and a few things. When you find a Certicard, it’s it’s pretty unusual, especially if the Certicard VIN matches the VIN of the actual car, which in our case it does. So if you ever find one of these things laying around, you might want to reach out to some Mopar groups or put it up on eBay, because if you find one that’s got a VIN and somebody has the car, they’re going to want to keep this with it anyway.
Just kind of a neat little detail we found here at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop and this cool 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible.

1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling Video V8 Speed and Resto Shop GTO Full Build
1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling Video V8 Speed and Resto Shop GTO Full Build – https://www.v8speedshop.com/contact
This 1967 GTO Restomod frame off restoration started with a car that looked like …it had been dragged out of a swamp. This ’67 GTO was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. However, over time, this 67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and was in need of a total restoration.
00:00 Introduction
02:24 1967 GTO Chassis Repairs
03:54 1967 GTO Chassis Assembly
05:51 1967 GTO Body Panel Replacement
07:24 1967 GTO Custom Firewall
09:57 1967 GTO Body Gaps and Trim Fitting
10:23 1967 Pontiac 400 Engine
11:05 1967 Pontiac GTO Bodywork
11:48 1967 GTO Interior Restoration
12:55 1967 GTO Paint Part 1
13:34 1967 GTO Engine Install
14:42 1967 GTO Paint Part 2
18:09 1967 GTO Trim and Vinyl Top Install
18:54 1967 GTO Reveal at Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show
Once the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, our team evaluated the car and disassembled it, and started building the restoration plan. The ’67 GTO frame required repairs on the body mounts, and a few other places, and the chassis was restored with Epoxy primer and industrial paint finishes. The V8 crew installed a complete BMR fabrication tubular suspension system, similar to what would be seen on Chevelles, Oldsmobile 442s, Buick GS’s, and other GM A-Body platform cars. The suspension system will allow the car to handle and perform better than originally, without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The 1967 GTO body was media blasted, and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop fabrication shop went to work, replacing the quarter panels, installing a new trunk floor, replacing the cabin floor, repairing the dashboard, building a custom, firewall, replacing rocker panels, and much more. Once our 1967 Pontiac GTO’s rust and damage repairs were completed, it went into our body shop where all the panels were fitted perfectly, and sanded to perfection.
Meanwhile, our mechanical team refreshed the Pontiac 400 V8 and topped it with a FiTech fuel injection system for improved performance and reliability. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop paint department sprayed the GTO in a fresh two-stage Tyrol Blue, creating a show car quality paint finish with clear coat a mile deep.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop’s Interior department restored the bucket seats, stripping the seats and repairing the frames, installing new seat foam and wrapping them with new reproduction seat covers. The V8 interior shop also refurbished the door panels, the dashboard, headliner, and all the various elements inside the car, and installed a new carpet.
Once the new fresh paint job was wet sanded and buffed to mirror perfection, the interior shop, crew installed a new vinyl top and began reassembling everything inside the car. This included a dashboard filled with gauges from Dakota Digital and a sound system from Custom Autosound, air conditioning from Vintage Air, and reproduction dashboard trim and console details.
The crew installed a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system to make the Pontiac 400 V8 engine, sing, and new wheels and tires were installed. Trim pieces from OPGI or use throughout the car to make everything crisp and new. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team did amazing job restoring his car from start to finish, and you would not recognize it as being the same car and looking at the final product.
But perhaps one of the greatest satisfaction of this restoration was presenting the car to the owners at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago! The team unveiled the car to the owners and their family, and then the MCACN judges took over and scrutinized the car. It was judged in the Street Modified class, scoring 997 out of 1000 possible points! Our team is grateful for the opportunity to restore such a cool 1967 GTO for very nice people, and the Blue Ribbon was appreciated!

Pro-Touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Supercharged LSA Swap at V8 Speed and Resto Shop V8TV Part 2
V8 Speed and Resto Shop is hiring a fabricator! https://www.v8speedshop.com/jobs

Pro-Touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Supercharged LSA …Swap at V8 Speed and Resto Shop V8TV
This Pro-Touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop wearing fresh paint, but the owner wanted some performance upgrades to match. The task is to install a supercharged LSA engine and a Tremec 6060 6-speed manual transmission, all without hurting the new paint. The V8 crew is also adding all the needed cooling, fuel, and electrical system upgrades required to make it all sing.
In this video, we get the under car tour, discussing the full Ridetech coil-over suspension system, hydraulically boosted Wilwood brakes, 18″ Forgeline GAC3 wheels, and the mandrel-bent, custom-fit stainless steel exhaust system for the car. The exhaust tubing came from Magnaflow, with Doug Thorley exhaust cutouts, a Magnaflow X pipe, and Corsa mufflers.
One challenge was to route the 2.5 inch stainless exhaust all the way out the back of the car without interfering with the Ridetech coil-over rear 4-link suspension system and fuel tank without cutting the trunk floor.

Cooling is handled by a C&R Radiator and coolers, and the cabin is cooled by Vintage Air. Under the car lives a full Ridetech coil-over suspension system, with hydraulically boosted Wilwood brakes. Our team is building a full mandrel-bent, custom-fit exhaust system for the car.
Tasks included notching the subframe to fit the LSA and the factory accessory drive system, and fabricating a custom smooth firewall and hydraulic clutch master cylinder mount, fabricating a and custom air intake system. Ringbrothers billet hood hinges support the modified hood, which was re-structured to clear the supercharger housing.
We’ll be posting update blogs along the way as we complete this Pro-Touring 1968 Camaro!

1970 Ford Mustang Convertible Restoration Feature at V8 Speed and Resto Shop V8TV

Do you want to build custom cars for a living? Click the link!
1970 Ford Mustang Convertible Restoration Feature …at V8 Speed and Resto Shop V8TV
We’ve recently completed a 1970 Ford Mustang convertible restoration here at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. This is a cool Mustang Restomod with a rich history, and has been in the same family since the summer of 1972! The V8 Speed team completely disassembled the car for rust repairs and suspension upgrades, fixed the rusty and damaged body, and repainted the Mustang in a nearly-original color.
It’s powered by a Ford 302 V8 backed by a C4 automatic transmission, and was equipped from the factory with air conditioning. Our customer drove the car often, as it was her first car back in 1972. Over the years, the ‘70 Mustang was driven by the next generation in the family, until it was wrecked in 1993 and subsequently parked. It had not been driven since then, and we were happy to return it to the road once completed.
The V8 Speed and Resto Shop team disassembled the entire car, and stripped all the paint to reveal previous damage and rust repairs. The convertible Mustang was mounted on a fixture in our fabrication shop to keep the body structure supported and true, and sheet metal repairs began. The quarter panels, rear tail panel, doors and floors were all replaced with new steel.
While this car is restored to appear original, we modified a few aspects of the car for better drivability, reliability, performance, and more enjoyment. For example, we installed an upgraded front suspension system from Rod and Custom Motorsports, which provides a tubular upper and lower control arm assembly based on the later Mustang II geometry. It also features an oversized sway bar and a rack and pinion steering unit for more precise control and modern Mustang Road feel. Improved front disc brakes are also installed, along with all new plumbing and brake lines. Familiar but upsized 17” Magnum 500 wheels from Scott Drake are wrapped in Bridgestone tires.
The 302 small block Ford V8 was rebuilt, and is now topped with a FiTech fuel injection system for modern-day reliability, which is also controlling the electronic distributor and ignition timing. This car came from the Ford factory with air conditioning, but we elected to install a more efficient A/C system from Vintage Air, which uses current refrigerant to cool the air. The front accessory drive is a black serpentine system from CVF Racing, complete with a high-flow water pump and higher output alternator.
The color is very close to the original Ford Medium Bright Blue, but it’s been tweaked a bit as preferred by the owner for a bit more… pop! And where the original paint was a single-stage blue, today’s urethane 2-stage basecoat / clearcoat shines far more than the original finish ever did.
The V8 Speed and Resto Shop interior shop rebuilt the bucket seats and rear seat, upholstering them in the original white / parchment hue, and a new black carpet covers the sound-deadened floor. The top frame and hydraulic system was restored, and we installed a new white convertible top. Fresh glass looks crisp and clean, Dozens of new trim pieces from Classic Industries were installed to make things new again inside.
This family heirloom 1970 Mustang Convertible is nicer looking, and nicer to drive, than it was when it rolled off the assembly line brand new. We at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop are honored to have the opportunity to bring it to a new level for many more years of family enjoyment.

This family heirloom 1970 Mustang Convertible is nicer looking, and nicer to drive, than it was when it rolled off the assembly line brand new. We at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop are honored to have the opportunity to bring it to a new level for many more years of family enjoyment.

1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Big Block 5-Speed Upgrades Feature Video V8 Speed & Resto Shop V8TV

Do you want to build custom cars for a living? Click the link!
1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Big Block …5-Speed Upgrades Feature Video V8 Speed & Resto Shop V8TV
We recently did some work on this clean 1969 Chevelle for a cool customer who’s become a good friend over the years. The car came to us with most of the pieces in place, but just not playing that well together. In fact, it’s been a repeat visitor over the years getting better upgrades each time.
The first time, we did some driveline repairs, but the fun project was creating and installing a custom contoured firewall we made in our fabrication shop. It was made from 18 gauge cold rolled steel, and the design added strength and a style that didn’t look out of place on the Chevelle. Once that was body worked and painted, we moved on to the engine.
It originally arrived sporting a crate big block Chevy, but we eventually installed a Fast Times Motorworks built 460 cube torque monster for more laughs from the right pedal. This one started as a 454 with a 4-bolt block, but was bored and stroked to 460 cubes with Scat I-beam rods, Keith Black pistons, and ARP hardware throughout. The top end relies on a Howard’s roller cam and Edelbrock heads and intake inhaling the mix from an MSD Atomic EFI system.
It’s bolted to a Tremec TKO-600 6-speed manual transmission shifted by a Hurst stick and a hydraulic clutch for smooth action. We installed 3.55:1 Motive gears in the 12-bolt housing along with a Detroit TruTrac differential for better grip. We love the sound of a rumbling big block through the stainless x-pipe Borla mufflers.
Handling is improved with a QA1 tubular coil-over suspension system up front for adjustability, a nice ride, and a lowered stance. The upsized QA1 sway bar resists body roll when you whip the Grant steering wheel and Delphi quick-ratio steering box around. The rear is hung with more QA1 coil-overs, tubular arms, and sway bar. We added Wilwood disc brakes all the easy around, which hide behind 17” Rocket Racing Booster wheels. The calipers are squeezed by a Hydratech hydraulic brake assist unit.
Inside, you’ll find Dakota Digital Gauges, a tilt steering column, Scat seats, and a Vintage Air A/C unit with its compressor and belt held in place by a Vintage Air Frontrunner serpentine accessory drive system.
The Chevelle wears a handsome shade of metallic charcoal gray, but it really came to life when we added some custom-made silver SS396 stripes to the sides. It’s a sharp car that drives like a champ.
