## 🏁 Factory Engineered Race Car: Historic 1968 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet at MCACN Show V8TV

Join us as we dive into the fascinating history of a rare 1968 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet, a car that has earned its place among the legends of American muscle. This particular Mustang is part of the exclusive 135 series, with only 50 of these special models ever built. Ford engineered these cars to showcase their new 428 Cobra Jet V8 engine, which became known as the “King of the Road.”

The development of this car wasn’t without challenges. From battling rear wheel hop—famously depicted in the movie *Bullitt*—to overcoming engine oil temperature issues, Ford’s racing and engineering teams faced a tug-of-war. One of the most interesting solutions was the oil cooler, adapted from an unexpected source: a concrete mixer.

Hear firsthand from the owner, Roger Parlett, a retired Ford engineer, who after a stroke of luck, purchased this Mustang for just $2,300. Despite early challenges, including a restrictive 390 exhaust system, this car performed impressively on the drag strip, running the quarter mile in 13.49 seconds. This Mustang’s racing days were cut short when the owner was drafted, and the car spent many years in storage. Today, it stands as a unique piece of automotive history, with a story that continues to captivate enthusiasts.

Whether you’re a Mustang aficionado or simply love the story behind rare muscle cars, this video offers a deep dive into what makes this 1968 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet truly special.

This stunning and significant 1968 Ford Mustang was an award-winning feature vehicle at the 2023 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago. You can see more from the show and purchase tickets to the 2024 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals here:

Top Cats – Rare Buick Wildcat Muscle at Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals MCACN 2023

The Buick Wildcat is a big Muscle Car, and here, Buick enthusiast Ted Nagel shares four amazing 1965 Buick Wildcats he brought out to display at the 2023 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) show in Chicago.

The 1965 Buick Wildcat was a sporty version of the full-size Buick coupe, initially starting life as an Invicta in 1962. By 1965, the base Wildcat engine was the 325 horsepower 401 “Nailhead” V8, but you could get the optional 340 HP 425 version, or the Super Wildcat 425 that churned out 360 HP thanks to the two 4-barrel carburetors.

Ted Nagel brought out four great Wildcats, including his version of the ideal ‘Cat featuring a rare aluminum dual-quad intake manifold and a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission beneath the stock 4-speed console. The other three are restored to original configuration but boasting lots of rare options and combinations, like the red 1 of 14 Custom Convertibles with both the 4- speed and the Super Wildcat dual quad 425 V8!

We were honored to meet David Sullivan at the 2023 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals and help unveil his amazing 1968 Ford Torino GT 428 Cobra Jet, a family heirloom with a history that’s as thrilling as it is sentimental.

David Sullivan, known for his roles in television and film, unveils the heartwarming narrative behind this exceptional muscle car. A car show isn’t merely about machines; it’s about the profound stories woven into them. Watch as David shares the emotional journey of his father purchasing this unique vehicle brand new in ’68, only to sideline it for decades to prioritize family.

The Torino, ordered with a rare all-black exterior and red interior, was a symbol of speed and passion. However, family responsibilities led to a pause in its journey until David took the reins, restoring it with a dedicated team from Billups Classic Cars.

Witness the touching moment as David and Kevin Oeste unveil the once neglected Torino GT, now gleaming in the spotlight, a tribute to a father’s legacy and a son’s devotion.

More than just a muscle car show, the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) is a place where stories come to life.  David’s Torino is more than just a car. It’s a symbol of family, love, and the choices we make in life. His journey to restore it is an inspiring testament to the power of perseverance and the memories we hold dear.

** UPDATE: It’s with heavy hearts that we regret to inform that the owner / caretaker of the 1970 Buick GSX “Prototype” show car Brad Conley has passed. He’s owned this extremely special car since 1978, and it is largely responsible for our host Kevin Oeste’s obsession with Muscle Cars. Please join us in extending our condolences to the Conley family, but also our deepest appreciation to Brad for finding, restoring, and showing this amazing car that touched so many lives.

Most of us have a particular car that left a mark on us, and this Muscle Car Of The Week left a burnout on host Kevin Oeste’s brain like a Buick 455 burning bias ply tires across a slick parking lot. This week, Oeste is united with a childhood dream car, seeing the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 “Prototype” show car in person for the first time at the 2018 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago. It was one of many special moments from the MCACN show, and a great example of why all muscle car fans should attend this amazing event. Special thanks to car owner Brad Conley for the personal tour of the GSX.

1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 Convertible in PLUM CRAZY at 2022 MCACN Show Muscle Car Of The Week

This amazing 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible is wearing an unusual color for an Oldsmobile, it’s actually a factory Chrysler color called Plum Crazy Purple! However, this amazing car was painted by General Motors in this Chrysler color back in 1970 and is considered correct for the car. How can this be? We got the whole story from restore Allan Steinbock at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago.

This is not just a pretty face, as this 442 features the 455 V8 engine with the W-30 performance package, including an aluminum intake manifold, hotter camshaft, tuned carburetor, and other blue-printed engine parts. It also features sport suspension, and the W 27 rear axle as well.

Although it is not a typical car, it is typical of the types of amazing and rare muscle cars found each year at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show in Chicago, we hope to see you there!
