We all rely on electronic fuel injection systems for reliable performance today, but would you believe that the Shelby team was experimenting with the technology back in 1968? Pete Disher brought out this unbelievably rare 1968 Shelby GT500 engineering test vehicle that was equipped with a 428 Cobra Jet engine (rather than the 428 Police Interceptor as standard) and a Conelec Electronic Fuel Injection system as well. It’s an amazing piece of history that was on display at the 2017 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois.
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL rumbles thanks to a 460+ cubic inch 428 fed by two four barrel Holleys on top, and is shifted with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some basic maintenance, as well as bodywork and a re-spray. Follow the progress here!
