We’re honored our friends at Street Muscle Magazine chose to feature the 1964 Chevrolet Corvette custom restomod we built at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop! A head-turning 1972 Chevrolet Camaro cruised into the V8 Speed and Resto Shop recently, ready for a touch of cosmetic magic and some TLC. The owner wanted to accentuate the Camaro’s gorgeous gold paint with some classic black Z/28 stripes, and let’s just say, we were chomping at the bit to show off the results!

The treatment included a fresh coat on the hood and deck lid, along with the addition of those sharp black stripes. To add a bit of extra flair, we also installed some sleek Ringbrothers hood hinges. But that’s not all – we took care of a few other maintenance items to keep this beauty running smoothly.

This is just the beginning for this stunning Camaro. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work our magic and elevate this classic muscle car to even greater heights! We can’t wait to share the final product with all of you. In the meantime, if you have a car that’s craving a makeover, drop on by V8 Speed and Resto Shop – we’d love to chat about your vision!

This 1978 Pontiac Trans Am came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop more like a lame duck than a bird of fire, so our team went to work adding new rear gears, a 2004R overdrive transmission, a roller cam from COMP Cams, and a FAST EZ-2.0 EFI system for better driving manners. The Pontiac 400 engine even received an unexpected refresh along the way. It’s not often to see a Pontiac 400 fuel injected engine, but this car keeps the Poncho power with modern touches.

We sell these parts and can install them on your classic or muscle car, just contact the V8 Speed & Resto Shop to talk to our technicians or to schedule your upgrades, transportation services are available.

Some of the parts used in this upgrade:

F.A.S.T. – EZ EFI 2.0 Fuel Injection System
Royal Purple – Max ATF and Max Tuff Synthetic Assembly Lube
B & M – Converter Lock-up Controller
Tanks Inc – Fuel Tank, HP Fuel Pump and Sending Unit
Shiftworks – Shifter Conversion Kit
COMP Cams – Roller Cam, Roller Lifters, Push Rods and Roller Rockers
Eastwood – High Temp Ceramic Engine Paint
K&N – Air Filter

Hot Wheels: Chevy Corvette Restomod Build: Custom ’64 Corvette C2 At The V8 Speed and Resto Shop

We’ve all wanted a full-size version of our favorite Hot Wheels car, and this custom 1964 Chevrolet Corvette built at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop makes that dream come true! The restomod Corvette build features custom paint, performance suspension upgrades from Global West, new disc brakes, and a Holley Sniper EFI system install on the Edelbrock 350 crate engine.

The Design

The main part of the project was repainting the Corvette in custom colors. The goal was to give the overall appearance of a full-size Hot Wheels car, a car that is fun to look at and drive! Custom C2 Corvettes can be controversial, as changing a C2 Corvette from original can hurt it’s collector car market value. However, this 1964 Corvette did not have it’s original engine any longer, and the exterior and interior had been changed from their original colors as well. This allowed for some freedom of expression to build a custom Corvette with a new paint job all it’s own.

Building The Corvette

This custom Corvette video features disassembling the corvette, repairing the fiberglass body, and a bit of Corvette C2 history. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop paint department repaints the Corvette in Ermine White, then lays out the 3 color custom stripe design. We mask off the stripes and custom paint the Corvette in our downdraft Blowtherm paint booth, and spray a final clear coat.

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the latest Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be officially celebrated on July 14, 2023.  The date marks the fourteenth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual holiday to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

Intended since 2010 to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, the U.S. Congress has helped launch CCAD by introducing resolutions each year at the SAN’s request.  This year, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced U.S. House Resolution 573 (H. Res. 573).  The resolution was sponsored by co-chairs of the SEMA-supported Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus.  These Congressional leaders have been strong advocates for the automotive culture in Washington, D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for the automobile’s unique historical place in our history.

It’s a perfect opportunity to drive your Classic or Muscle Car to work!

Help promote this special day: post on social media using the hashtag #CCAD and tag the celebration’s Facebook fan page (@CollectorCarAppreciationDayCCAD).

CELEBRATE OUR HOLIDAY YOUR WAY!

  • ATTEND an official vehicle-inspired event or web-based celebration.
  • HOST your own safety-minded gathering, club meeting or online gallery.
  • Promote a “HOLIDAY SALE” at your business in-store or online.
  • INVITE partnerships with nearby enthusiast-related groups if possible.

We recently got our 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS back from the dustless media blaster to find what type of previous repairs, rust, and corrosion were hiding under the paint.

Getting a car back from a media blaster is exciting because you’re always hoping for the best – meaning that the body or frame will need as little rust and damage repair as possible. There are many questions surrounding the media blasting process. For example:

What is the best blasting media to use for an old car?
What is dustless blasting?
What is glass bead?
What is the best blasting for classic car restoration?
Does sandblasting warp panels?
Is dustless blasting safe?
What can I expect when my car comes back from the media blaster?
What is the best way to strip paint and rust from an old car?
What is the best method to remove paint from a muscle car?

We attempt to answer all these questions in this video where we walk around and take a close-up book at the body shell of this 1967 Camaro after dustless media blasting.

Dustless blasting involves using high-pressure water and glass bead media to remove paint from the surface of the body. It is an excellent way to remove paint from highly contoured surfaces and areas that would take far too long with a traditional sanding tool. Here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, we will still manually strip the big flat panels like hoods, roof skins, decklids, door skins and quarter panels, just to minimize any risk of warpage and to have better control over the process. However, the dustless blaster will quickly strip the paint from the fire wall, floors, underside of the car, the trunk floor, door, jams, and all of the little pieces and parts, including the chassis and frame. It is a great way to go.

We’ve restored many Camaros here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, and we are looking forward to doing some sheet-metal repair on this car. Plans call for work in the quarter panels, inner wheel houses, trunk floor, dashboard replacement, repairing the outer cowl panels, (or tulip panels), and many more little holes that we found throughout the body shell. We’ll share updates as this 1967 Camaro goes through the fabrication center here at V8 Speed and Resto.

If you have a restoration project like this Camaro, or would like a custom built Hot Rod or classic, you can reach our shop anytime at https://www.v8speedshop.com and we are happy to chat about your project.

The Ames Automotive Foundation in Marlborough, NH, is proud to present over ninety Muscle Cars and Classics on display, spanning 100 years of automotive history. Most of these cars are completely original, including tires and paint, and typically have fewer than 10,000 miles on the odometer. The rest are high quality restorations of rare “one of” cars. When Steve Ames started this collection, he realized how rare it is to find such a stunning, original example of classic cars and focused on ultra low-mileage, untouched, original vehicles. Realizing these vehicles needed to be preserved for future generations, Steve and his wife Joan created the Ames Automotive Foundation in 2016 to allow future generations to have the opportunity to learn how the workers could assemble these cars in a matter of hours on a moving assembly line. The Ames Automotive Foundation allows these extraordinary vehicles to live on for years to come. They invite you to come see these wonderful examples of American ingenuity and hear their stories. Tours are currently available by advance appointment. Please fill out the contact form to schedule a tour today!

Plymouth named it the Duster, but this freshly restored 1973 version by the V8 Speed and Resto Shop is too clean for the name! Unless you’re referring to the hot 340 V8 under the hood.. then it all starts to make sense. You’ll get to hear the thumping Comp cam under the Edelbrock Performer aluminum heads when we post the video feature.   The V8 team was honored for the opportunity to restore every aspect of this car.  But that blue though! The secret of the color is also revealed in the video… stay tuned!
