Congrats to our friend Al on another car show victory with his ’69 Chevelle! It seems every time he takes it out he brings home some kind of award. This time, it was scoring 994/1000 in the Street Stock / Modified Gold class at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago! He’s also taken First Place at The Hill Car Show in St. Louis, People’s Choice at the Waterloo Optimist Club Car Show in IL, and many other Best Paint, First In Class, and People’s Choice Awards at shows all around. Way to go Al, your Chevelle is one of the favorites we’ve restored here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop!

Welcome to a super-special episode of V8 Radio, the companion program to the 200th episode of Muscle Car Of The Week! In this episode, we’re airing the complete interview we recorded with 3-time Indy 500 winner Bobby Unser recorded at the 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago. This interview was a special stage presentation where Unser gave us the story about the amazing 1969 Ford Torino Pike’s Peak racer he drove to victory in 1969. The legendary cast of characters in the story includes Bunkie Knudsen, Smokey Yunick, Bill Stroppe, Holman and Moody, and many others, and Unser tells the fascinating story as if it happened yesterday. The car is a purpose-built stock car built by Bill Stroppe and Holman and Moody and is powered by a Smokey Yunick built Boss 429. Unser had not seen the car since ‘69, but he was surprised to learn that the car remains in as-raced condition today. He went on to share many stories of racing in general, and how to be a winner not only on the track but also in life, and a great recollection of a huge party after a winning snowmobile racing season! The display was a huge hit at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, and the car is a very special piece of racing history in the Brothers Collection. Enjoy the show!

1969 Chevrolet Corvette LS3 T56 6-Speed Swap Video Series at V8 Speed & Resto Shop

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop in need of some serious power, performance, and reliability upgrades. This C3 Corvette was powered by a non-original and well worn 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. The goal was a Corvette LS Swap to add modern power to this C3 Corvette. A C3 Corvette LS Swap seems to be a simple job at first glance, but the more you investigate, you’ll see that a C3 Corvette LS Swap isn’t quite so simple.

The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team addresses the fitment issue of the LS3 V8 swap, as well as the steps needed to perform a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission swap into the C3 Corvette. The challenges included fitting the off-center LS3 engine under the hood, as well as fitting the Tremec 6 speed manual transmission into the C3 Corvette chassis. We sourced our LS swap engine from GM Performance Parts, and a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission, clutch, bellhousing, and shifter from Modern Driveline.
