Never Judge A Book…

The goal of this 1957 Ford Ranch Wagon build is to add modern car handling with barely-streetable power from a Ford 427 legendary Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) V8, all while keeping a stock (ish) sleeper appearance.

A Modern Twist on a Legendary Engine

The elements include a 700+ HP John Kaase built 540-cube SOHC engine, 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, a Roadster Shop chassis and suspension, and great brakes.  The wagon will ride on 17” steel wheels – or Halibrand kidney-bean style wheels, depending on the mood.    The chassis will deliver a slightly lowered, but usable stance.

A Stock 1957 Ford Ranch Wagon. Or is it?

One of the goals of this custom hot rod 1957 Ford is to make it look unassuming. No racing bucket seats for this one, as it will feature the original style bench seat and steering column mounted shifter. The Ranch will wear an original Starmist Blue and Colonial White color scheme, with a coordinating restored interior.  New Old Stock or restored original trim will be used in all the original and correct locations on the car. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop is handling the build, and it’s going to be an amazing ride!

This great looking 1968 Chevrolet Camaro LS3 Restomod came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop to fix some tuning issues and to have a new custom interior installed. The plan was to modernize the door panels with some Fesler pieces, and custom design and build a center console to house the Vintage Air A/C controls, the power window switches, a pair of stainless cup holders, a double-din audio system, USB power, and the Tremec T56 6-speed shifter.

The V8 Speed and Resto Shop interior department completely designed, built, upholstered, and wired the custom console before installing it in the Camaro. The Fesler door and rear side panels were upholstered in matching black vinyl with a corresponding hounds-tooth insert to match the Camaro’s seats.

Before the car was complete, our team identified that the roof skin was rusty and improperly installed, so the V8 Speed and Resto Shop Fabrication Department went to work removing the old skin, repairing the rust, and installing a new piece. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop Body Shop finished the job and painted the new roof with a black industrial coating, then the Interior Shop installed a new vinyl top.

The LS3 1968 Camaro makes great power, and is a real blast to drive. We’re excited to see this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro rolling down the road, and the owner is looking forward to making more memories on road trips with his restomod Camaro.

This super-clean pro-touring 1969 Camaro was built by it’s owner, but the 900+ horsepower twin turbo LS engine does not want to keep its cool under the hood.   The V8 team is taking a look to see if a good solution can be engineered to help the owner be able to drive his prized Camaro.

This wicked 1971 Pontiac Firebird is wearing a deep blue flame job, but the owner felt it needed more fire under the hood. He sent the car, a T56 5-speed transmission, and a fresh E-85 burning 468 cube Pontiac stroker to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop to install to fix all that. The new mill runs at 11.4:1 compression thanks to the alcohol in E-85, which is the best fuel the owner can get in his neighborhood.   Click THIS LINK to read the V8 Forum thread on this car, and the 4 V8TV videos and pics below.

The V8 Speed & Resto Shop recently completed a modern 5.0 Coyote V8 swap into a 1972 Ford Bronco that was brought to us as a restored truck. Now, the restomod Bronco runs much stronger and is more reliable thanks to the Ford Performance 5.0 Coyote V8 engine swap and upgraded Dakota Digital Gauges. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop conversion also included installing a custom mandrel bent Magnaflow exhaust system and high-pressure fuel system to run the Coyote engine.

Now that the 2021 Ford Bronco has been revealed, it’s fun to show how early Ford Broncos can be retrofitted with modern Coyote V8 engines and technology to make the classic Ford Bronco perform like the new 2021 Bronco.

Our V8 Radio hosts Kevin Oeste and Mike Clarke always enjoy learning the stories of how performance parts companies came to be, and today, Kevin recalls his recent visit to Forgeline Motorsports. Forgeline builds racing wheels that are also quite popular on the street in the Pro-Touring market, and Kevin shares the history asa well as the manufacturing techniques of this uniquely family-owned American racing wheel company. Oh yeah, and this is the longest trivia question segment to date, and Mike and Kevin apologize for that, but it just happened that way.
