The V8TV crew is geared up for the 2017 Street Machine Nationals in DuQuoin, IL, as they will be on-hand all weekend shooting new V8TV Television show episodes and showing cars worked on in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop in Red Bud, IL.
“The Street Machine Nationals is a great event that is just jammed with awesome cars and great people, and that always makes for outstanding event coverage on V8TV” said Kevin Oeste, Host of V8TV. The new episodes will be shown nationally on V8TV airing Mondays on TUFF-TV, Rev’n, and The Action Channel, as well as online.
DuQuoin is also close to V8TV’s home at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, so the crew will be displaying some very cool cars from the shop at the event.
Cars on hand will include a recently completed 1969 Chevrolet Camaro resto-mod featuring a fuel injected 350 with a 4-speed and modern updates based on classic Z-28 styling. Ford fans will dig the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 street machine packing a dual-quad stroker 428 and a 4-speed, a car painted and tuned at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop. And since this is the 40th anniversary of Smokey & The Bandit, a sweet black 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit SE will be shown featuring modern fuel injection, overdrive, and a roller-cammed Pontiac 400 under the hood.
“Everyone loves Bandit Trans Ams, and we just completed some cool upgrades on this one without detracting from the DNA of the car” Oeste adds.
Between showing the cars, shooting TV, and promoting their Drive In Cruise event coming up in August, the V8TV Crew will be busy the weekend of the Street Machine Nationals. “We always run into lots of shop customers and V8TV fans at the event, it’s like a big reunion” says Oeste. “It’s one of our favorite events to attend.”
Look for the cars and V8 Crew on-site, and keep an eye on http://www.v8tvshow.com or the V8TV Facebook page for updates on when the TV episodes will be airing. More information about the cars can be found at http://www.v8speedshop.com.

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop in need of some serious power, performance, and reliability upgrades. This C3 Corvette was powered by a non-original and well worn 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. The goal was a Corvette LS Swap to add modern power to this C3 Corvette. A C3 Corvette LS Swap seems to be a simple job at first glance, but the more you investigate, you’ll see that a C3 Corvette LS Swap isn’t quite so simple.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team addresses the fitment issue of the LS3 V8 swap, as well as the steps needed to perform a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission swap into the C3 Corvette. The challenges included fitting the off-center LS3 engine under the hood, as well as fitting the Tremec 6 speed manual transmission into the C3 Corvette chassis. We sourced our LS swap engine from GM Performance Parts, and a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission, clutch, bellhousing, and shifter from Modern Driveline.

On this episode of V8 Radio, Mike Clarke and Kevin Oeste go back in time as Mike made the mistake of asking Kevin how he got started in this business. It started back in 1996 when Kevin and his buddy Paul Wieshuber embarked on the Hot Rod Power Tour in a car worthy of a junkyard, and it all went downhill from there. Who’d have thought he would have landed a job with Hot Rod and eventually start V8TV and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop? They also chat about the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 427 R-Code featured on Muscle Car Of The Week, ratchet up the trivia questions, and have a few laughs on this episode.

This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am was originally equipped with a 403 cubic inch Oldsmobile V8, and although it was pretty hot for the time, it just isn’t enough for the owner today. The car came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some high-performace upgrades including a GM LS3 485 HP V8 engine fed by a Holley EFI system, and it will handle better thanks to a Ridetech Street Grip suspension system with YearOne wheels. Wilwood brakes will haul it down in short order. Before all the fun, we had to fix some rusty floors, which was a good time to fabricate a custom firewall for the car as well. Follow along with all the progress here!
