Re-skinning a Snake, outside and in

The Cobra is one of the true icons of performance cars, and this sweet Backdraft version is powered by a Roush Performance 427 Windsor small block. It was purchased with typical Cobra flash, but the owner likes to personalize his rides, so the Cobra came to V8 Speed and Resto for several rounds of appearance upgrades. First order of business was to black-out all the bright trim, including powdercoating the windshield frame, wheels, and other trim items. It was then treated to a complete repaint in our Paint Shop.

From Blacked-Out to Bespoke Beauty

This Cobra’s transformation wasn’t complete after the paint job. V8 Speed & Resto’s Upholstery Shop added the perfect contrast with a custom, hand-stitched tan leather interior. The distressed finish echoes the texture of snake scales, and the rich leather aroma welcomes you… until you turn the key and wake up the 427’s growling side pipes.   Slide behind the wheel and experience luxury that matches the car’s power.

CONTACT THE V8 SPEED AND RESTO SHOP

This cool Unique Motorsport Cobra came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop looking to convert to electric power steering with a closer ratio than rack it has currently installed. The owner is also looking to upgrade brakes to a 4 piston Wilwood manual system, and to add a full tonneau cover for the cockpit in our interior shop. The owner drives this one hard on the track, and we love that it gets used the way it was intended!

Revving their engines in a battle for supremacy, the Shelby Cobra and the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette stand as legendary icons of automotive performance. On one side, the Shelby Cobra, a snarling beast born to conquer the tracks. Its lightweight frame, monstrous 427 Ford power, and thunderous roar make it a force to be reckoned with. Every stomp of the throttle sends shivers down the spine, propelling you into an adrenaline-fueled frenzy. On the other side, the Chevrolet Corvette, a sleek and powerful machine that balances elegance and brute strength. Its refined engineering, superb handling for the day, and iconic style create a harmonious symphony of performance. It grips the road like a predator, delivering thrills with every corner conquered. Both titans offer a smile-inducing driving experience, leaving you craving more. So, which would you choose in this battle of performance legends?

V8 Speed and Resto Shop

This 1965 Shelby Cobra by Backdraft came to us when the owner wanted all the chrome and bright aluminum pieces powdercoated black. In addition, we installed a killer audio system so the driver can hear tunes over the Roush 427! We also performed some paint work on the car after a fender was damaged.

We all rely on electronic fuel injection systems for reliable performance today, but would you believe that the Shelby team was experimenting with the technology back in 1968?  Pete Disher brought out this unbelievably rare 1968 Shelby GT500 engineering test vehicle that was equipped with a 428 Cobra Jet engine (rather than the 428 Police Interceptor as standard) and a Conelec Electronic Fuel Injection system as well.    It’s an amazing piece of history that was on display at the 2017 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois.
