1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration Photo Gallery at V8 Speed and Resto Shop

This 1967 Pontiac GTO came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop ready to start a new life.   We stripped the car, performed extensive metal repair with parts from OPGI, rebuilt and upgraded the chassis with parts from BMR Suspension, added disc brakes, and FiTech fuel injection to the 400 V8 engine.   We reupholstered the complete interior and vinyl top in-house.   The body was restored and painted in Tyrol blue, and the GTO scored top honors at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago on its first time out!

1969 Chevrolet Corvette LS3 T56 6-Speed Swap at V8 Speed & Resto Shop Photo Gallery

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop in need of some serious power, performance, and reliability upgrades. This C3 Corvette was powered by a non-original and well worn 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. The goal was a Corvette LS Swap to add modern power to this C3 Corvette. A C3 Corvette LS Swap seems to be a simple job at first glance, but the more you investigate, you’ll see that a C3 Corvette LS Swap isn’t quite so simple.

The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team addresses the fitment issue of the LS3 V8 swap, as well as the steps needed to perform a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission swap into the C3 Corvette. The challenges included fitting the off-center LS3 engine under the hood, as well as fitting the Tremec 6 speed manual transmission into the C3 Corvette chassis. We sourced our LS swap engine from GM Performance Parts, and a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual transmission, clutch, bellhousing, and shifter from Modern Driveline.

1979 Pontiac Trans Am LS3 Swap and Suspension Upgrades at V8 Speed and Resto Shop

This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am was originally equipped with a 403 cubic inch Oldsmobile V8, and although it was pretty hot for the time, it just isn’t enough for the owner today.    The car came to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some high-performace upgrades including a GM LS3 485 HP V8 engine fed by a Holley EFI system, and it will handle better thanks to a Ridetech Street Grip suspension system with YearOne wheels.   Wilwood brakes will haul it down in short order.  Before all the fun, we had to fix some rusty floors, which was a good time to fabricate a custom firewall for the car as well.   Follow along with all the progress here!

1951 Chevrolet Dump Pickup Truck

1951 Chevrolet Dump Pickup Truck Restoration Photo Gallery

This 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck served as our customer’s Grandfather’s farm truck for many years.   In fact, it was his Grandfather that built the original dump mechanism for the truck.    After years of labor on the farm, the truck was sent to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for a complete restoration with some modifications to make it like new… and ready to be put back to work!

1969 Camaro "Carbon Flash" Restoration At V8 Speed & Resto Shop
1969 Camaro “Carbon Flash” Restoration in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop

Sometimes it’s advantageous to take over a project than to start from scratch.   In this case, the customer wanted a cool ‘69 Camaro, and we happened to find him one that was already undergoing a restoration.   The owner of this clean Arizona car changed his mind and decided to sell his project, so we had the car shipped to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop in Red Bud, IL, where it will now become the Pro-Touring Camaro the new owner has always wanted.     Features include a Holley Terminator EFI system, Vintage Air A/C, Scat seats, restoration parts from Classic Industries, Axalta paint, ARP engine hardware, COMP cam, and much more.

Once the car arrived in our shop, we took inventory of all the parts that came with the car and gave it an initial once-over.

It is a very clean car that had just received a silver paint job.   Our customer wants a different color, but at least this one does not require extensive bodywork.

Two V8 Speed & Resto Shop Built 1969 Camaros Included in Summer Of '69 Camaro Display at 2019 Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, OH

We are all very excited here at V8TV and the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, as we’ve received the high honor of being chosen to restore the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro belonging to COMP Cams! They’ve had the car for many years, and 2016 marks the 40th Anniversary of COMP Cams, so they wanted the car freshened up for the milestone year.  We’ll be documenting the restoration of the car along the way, both in photos and video.

Plans for the car include a FAST EFI equipped LS engine mated to a TCI 6X 6-speed automatic transmission, a Heidt’s suspension system, updated wheels, tires, and brakes, and a fresh paint job… among many other details. Although the car will retain it’s black-and-white theme, it will have a red pinstripe on the SS stripes, updated wheels to go with the new suspension, and a few other subtle tricks here and there. It’s going to be a stunner!

Our crew is ready to make it happen, and we’re proud to work with one of the industry icons to bring this significant car up-to-date.  Follow along in the photo gallery, videos, and a build thread on this slick ’69!

This was an awesome project, the chance to restore the body on a 1955 Chevrolet hauler truck named “Carried Away” which serves as the chauffeur for an original 1955 Chevy gasser named “Mr. Chevy”. Mr. Chevy first became a race car around 1968, and has a great story all on it’s own. Below you’ll see the videos on the car and the truck, along with the restoration photos at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. Once completed, Mr. Chevy and Carried Away were feature vehicles at the SEMA Show, the Grand National Roadster Show, the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, the Syracuse Nationals, the Tri-5 Nationals, and many others. It’s almost too cool for words. Check it out!

1966 Ford Galaxie 7-Litre Complete Restoration at V8 Speed & Resto Shop

This cool 1966 Ford Galaxie 7-Litre just arrived in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop for some restoration work.   We’re excited to have a very cool and unusual Muscle Car in the shop to help bring back to its former glory.   These cars helped Ford launch the new 428 V8, and were touted as being the most powerful quiet car you could buy in ’66.     We’ll be posting a photo gallery of the project as well as videos along the way.

This car was purchased new in ‘66 by our customer’s father and has been under the same family ownership ever since. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop in Red Bud, IL, performed a complete restoration on this car, and the end result is better than new. Contact the shop today to discuss your next restoration project, we take them seriously and offer outstanding quality for your family heirloom. It even landed on the cover of Hemmings Muscle Machines Magazine when completed!

1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZR9 800 HP Pro-Touring Camaro Build Photo Gallery

We build lots of Camaros in the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, and each is different and unique.

This is an interesting car for many reasons, beyond the 800+ HP Mast Motorsports supercharged engine. We’re using a new Dynacorn body on this one that we bought from Classic Industries, so the entire car will be new. The owner had no real attachment to a particular car, he just wanted a Camaro.    The car features the best of everything… Detroit Speed suspension, Baer brakes, Forgeline wheels, Toyo tires, Hydratech brake booster,  MagnaFlow exhaust, and much more.
